17.01.10 Prayers

PRAISE GOD:

  • That He is Sovereign over creation
  • That He appoints humankind to be stewards of His creation
  • That He therefore graciously allows us to share in caring for all He has made


PLEASE PRAY FOR:

  • The family and friends of Maximillian Smith as he is brought for baptism this morning, asking that Maximillian may grow into a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ
  • Gary and Karen as enjoy their post-Christmas weekend break by spending time away together in Lancaster
  • The PCC as it meets on Monday evening, giving thanks for the work, service and ministry undertaken by the PCC on behalf of God’s people in this place
  • The Small Groups as they meet together, giving thanks for the life, support and witness of our Small Groups, and praying that many others will take the opportunity to join Small Groups at the start of this new term
  • The Governors of Childwall CE Primary School as they meet on Thursday, praying for Gary as he chairs the Governing Body and for the recently elected  parent governors coming onto the Governing Body for the first time
  • The meeting on Saturday morning of clergy, Readers and audio/visual system operators, as they continue to learn together how best to utilise the wonderful facilities gifted to us
  • Messy New Year on Saturday afternoon, giving thanks to God for Jon and Sue and their team, and praying that many families will come to worship, learn and share fellowship together
  • All those affected most especially by the recent weather and snowy conditions across the UK,  giving particular thanks for the work of the emergency services and utilities engineers who have worked in difficult conditions to care for the vulnerable, isolated and injured
  • The people of Haiti suffering from the effects of the recent earthquake, praying for the bereaved and that adequate international relief will be available for this very poor country
  • The mission and ministry of Foodbank, praying that God will bless this ministry of compassion both nationally and here in South Liverpool
  • The sick and those undergoing medical procedures and those who care for them
  • All who grieve the loss of a loved one or remember the anniversary of a death at this time.


Collect for second Sunday of Epiphany

Eternal Lord,
our beginning and our end:
bring us with the whole creation
to your glory, hidden through past ages
and made known
in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

PRAISE GOD:

  • That He is the Creator of all that is and ever shall be
  • That He is the Sustainer of all that is and ever shall be
  • That He is the Provider of all that is and ever shall be

PLEASE PRAY FOR:

  • The Uniformed Organisations as they begin a new term, giving thanks to God for all the leaders, young people and children who are part of our Uniformed Organisations
  • The Special Service at the Methodist Church, rejoicing in the particular ministry and mission of this service and thanking God for the ecumenical cooperation it represents
  • Pathfinders and CYFA as they recommence this evening, praying for the Gospel to take deep root in the lives of the many youngsters with whom we have regular contact
  • The Fabric Area as they meet and discuss the needs of our church and the upkeep of the buildings
  • Gary as he goes to a meeting between Liverpool City Council Executive Officers and Members and Chairs of Governors on Monday evening, giving thanks for the life and work of Childwall CE Primary School
  • The World Mission Area of the PCC meeting on Monday evening, praising God for the contacts we have with those who are serving God in different parts of the globe
  • The Deanery Chapter (clergy) meeting on  Thursday at St Hilda’s, Hunts Cross, praying also for the work and ministry of Jane and Clive Durham
  • Heather Billington as she gathers material together for the next edition of Contact, praying for God’s blessing on this important aspect of our  ministry of communication and outreach across the parish
  • The people and government of New South Wales, Australia as they seek to attend to the costs and     consequences of the recent torrential rains and severe flooding
  • The sick and those undergoing medical procedures.
  • All who grieve the loss of a loved one or remember the anniversary of a death at this time.

Heavenly Father,
at the Jordan you revealed Jesus as your Son:
may we recognize him as our Lord
and know ourselves to be your beloved children;
through Jesus Christ our Saviour.                              Amen
