This week’s prayers for our church, our community and the world, listed in full below are also available as a pdf download. For the pdf option, please click here
PRAISE GOD:
- That Jesus Christ was tempted for forty days, yet without sin
- That the Holy Spirit strengthens and shapes us for Christ-like discipleship
- That the Scriptures teach and train us how to live righteously and faithfully
PLEASE PRAY FOR:
- Gary, who is preaching at St Hilda’s Hunts Cross this morning, and for Jane Durham as she leads that church community in worship and witness
- The Valentine’s Day Picnic Lunch and Walk today, that many will enjoy the opportunity for fellowship, and for Stuart and Rachel McClelland as they facilitate the day
- All for whom Valentine’s Day brings pain or regret, especially because of significant relationships that have come to an end through death or separation
- Each of us, that we might live a holy and disciplined Lent, putting to death those things that do not honour the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and being more determined to follow Christ, wherever that leads and whatever it costs
- Our children’s work and young people’s work, and especially for our leaders, as many organisations and activities take a break for half-term
- Gary who is at Church House in London on Friday serving on the Candidates Panel of Ministry Division, praying that wisdom and discernment will be shown in regard to each person whose ministry and future is under consideration
- Joan McClelland, that she might quickly and easily adjust to the contrasting conditions she will face during her period of service in Malawi, and for the medical staff and nursing team she will work with in Blantyre
- Those who serve in Government and Parliament, that all may show transparency and humility in all aspects of their public service, not least in the wake of the latest concerns over expenses
- The mission and ministry of Theological Colleges and Courses and all whom they prepare for ministry: praying especially for Bill Addy as he continues with his training; Scott and Jenny Davies as they begin to discern the next steps in their ministry; and Becca Phillips as she prepares to come to serve amongst us as Assistant Curate from the summer
- The sick and those undergoing medical procedures.
- All who grieve the loss of a loved one or remember the anniversary of a death at this time.
Collect for Sunday before Lent
Holy God,
you know the disorder of our sinful lives:
set straight our crooked hearts,
and bend our wills to love your goodness
and your glory
in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
