PRAISE GOD:

  • That He sent Jesus Christ to be the Light of the World
  • That He calls us out of darkness into light
  • That He sets His people free to bring light to others


PLEASE PRAY FOR:

  • Our prayerful and careful reflection on how we personally will respond to the ‘Open for All’ initiative, with its exclusive focus at this stage on the re-development of the Church Hall into the new All Saints’ Centre
  • The Christingle Service, that many will come and recall that Jesus Christ is the Light of the World
  • Naida, Helen and others as they organise ‘Festive Fun’ this evening, that this will be a good time of fellowship together
  • The Standing Committee of the PCC meeting on Monday, thanking God for our wardens, Peter and Keith, and PCC Secretary, Anne, for their faithful service and ministry
  • The Jazz, Supper and Quiz night on Friday, that this evening will be a wonderful time of hospitality, enjoyment and fellowship
  • The ‘Carols, Cakes and Cuppas’ Christmas Tea on Saturday, praying that people of all ages will enjoy being together, and that many from outside our worshipping community will feel invited and welcomed
  • Those preparing for the Activ8 Toy Service next week, thanking God for the leaders of our Uniformed  Organisations and for their commitment to working with our young people
  • The unions and government in the UK, as they seek to find a way through the myriad consequences of the present  economic situation, especially its impact upon jobs, pensions and housing
  • The ministry and mission of the Salvation Army as it seeks to minister to the homeless and displaced at this time of the year through the provision of additional food, shelter and services
  • Those who are sick, anxious or undergoing medical procedures at this time.
  • Those who are bereaved, or who remember the anniversary of a bereavement at this time

Collect for second Sunday of Advent

Almighty God,
purify our hearts and minds,
that when your Son Jesus Christ comes again as
judge and saviour
we may be ready to receive him,
who is our Lord and our God.  Amen

  • Our prayerful and careful reflection on how we will personally respond to the ‘Open for All’ initiative, with its exclusive focus at this stage on the re-development of the Church Hall into the new All Saints’ Centre
  • Each of us to engage with the Advent Season with sobriety and thoughtfulness, as we reflect on the purpose of Christ’s incarnation: to save humankind from death and hell, and bring life and liberty to all who call upon Him
  • Bookworms on Monday evening, thanking God for the positive relationships and conversations that Bookworms engenders
  • The people of Scotland on St Andrew’s Day (Wednesday), praying for the work of the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh
  • Gary and the Rockclub leaders as they meet on Thursday to prepare the material for the children for January next year, thanking God for all those who give their time and energy to teach and train our children in the ways of Christ
  • Childwall School as they begin this week to bring alive the Christmas story to children and their families, praying      especially for the Early Years and Foundation Stage Nativity Service on Friday
  • The people and government of Egypt in the midst of the present turmoil and uncertainty that they face, asking     especially for restraint, engagement and dialogue to quickly replace confrontation and violence
  • The ministry and mission of those who live and work in Christian communities, both lay and religious, thanking God for their ministry of prayer, hospitality and service
  • Those who are sick, anxious or undergoing medical procedures at this time.
  • Those who are bereaved, or who remember the anniversary of a bereavement at this time.

Almighty God,
as your kingdom dawns,
turn us from the darkness of sin to the
light of holiness,
that we may be ready to meet you
in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

  • The children being baptised today – Charlotte Grace Symes, Jessica Wake, Rachel Wake, Adam Hooper, Louie Freeman –  and their families, that they may know for themselves the love of God brought near in Jesus Christ
  • The PCC meeting on Monday, thanking God for their leadership and vision, and praying for them in their deliberations and decisions
  • Gary as he attends the College of Canons meeting at Liverpool Cathedral on Tuesday evening, when he and the other Honorary Canons will help the Cathedral Staff reflect further upon their mission, ministry and relationship with the diocese at large
  • The Readers and Clergy as they meet together on Thursday night to decide upon the sermon series for the Spring Term 2012 , thanking God for the ministry of all those who lead our worship and teaching
  • The Messy Church team as they prepare for Messy Advent on Saturday, thanking God for all that Messy Church is and does
  • The people and government of Syria as they continue to face a period of grave turmoil and uncertainty as some strive for, and others resist, a greater measure of democratisation
  • The ministry and mission of the Bible Society as they seek to make the Word of God both accessible and relevant to as many people across the planet as possible
  • Those who are sick, anxious or undergoing medical procedures at this time.
  • Those who are bereaved, or who remember the anniversary of a bereavement at this time.

Merciful God,
teach us to be faithful in change and uncertainty,
that trusting in your word

and obeying your will

  • Bishop Frank, thanking God that he is with us today and praying that God may encourage and sustain him in his ministry
  • Becca, who is on a residential training course this week, that God will inspire and direct her afresh

  • Each of us, as we return our ‘Giving for All’ responses, that we might be faithful and joyful in our commitment to financially support the ongoing mission and ministry of All Saints’
  • F or our prayerful and careful reflection on how we will personally respond to the ‘Open for All’ initiative, too, with its exclusive focus at this stage on the re-development of the Church Hall into the new All Saints’ Centre
  • The Mischief Night youth event today at St Stephen’s and the Light Party for All Hallows E’en at All Saints’ on Monday, and for Becca and her team involved in both, that children and young people will be blessed as they celebrate all that is good about God and the light that He brings into people through Jesus Christ
  • Ruth Scott as she begins work this week as our new Church Administrator, thanking God for her many gifts and praying for her as she shapes this important role in our mission and ministry
  • The Salisbury Trustees of Childwall CE Primary School as they meet on Wednesday night, and for Bill Addy as he leads the meeting in his capacity as President
  • The people and government of Turkey following the tragic earthquake this week, especially those who have lost family members and the rescuers who are working in such difficult conditions.
  • The ministry and mission of Christian actors, poets, writers and playwrights, thanking God for the ways in which they can speak into and help re-shape contemporary culture through their values and concerns
  • Those who are sick, anxious or undergoing medical procedures at this time.

Faithful Lord,
whose steadfast love never ceases
and whose mercies never come to an end:
