Please pray… 8th January 2012

PRAISE GOD:

  • That He sent a star to lead the Magi to Christ
  • That He calls both Jew and Gentile to worship the infant Jesus
  • That He invites high born and low born equally to adore the Saviour


PLEASE PRAY FOR:

  • Our prayerful and careful reflection on how we personally will respond to the ‘Open for All’ initiative, with its exclusive focus at this stage on the re-development of the Church Hall into the new All Saints’ Centre
  • Becca as she preaches and presides at Christ Church, Netherley this morning, praying also for the life and witness of that small but faithful Christian community
  • All those in our Uniformed Organisations, especially remembering all those associated with the Boys Brigade, past and present, who will mourn Andrew Sefton’s passing
  • The deanery clergy (chapter) meeting on Wednesday continuing to pray for positive working relationships between local churches  to grow and develop
  • The Men’s Breakfast on Saturday, thanking God for this opportunity for men to come together for fellowship, teaching and prayer
  • Re:View beginning on Wednesday 18th January, that many would want to understand more about what it means to put faith into practice and live as a Christian in the world
  • The people and government of Syria as they continue the journey towards greater democracy and accountability in their national life and institutions
  • The ministry and mission of university and college chaplaincies and Christian Union’s as new term’s begin, praying especially for the mission and ministry of the Christian groups at Liverpool Hope University
  • Those who are sick, anxious or undergoing medical procedures at this time.
  • Those who are bereaved, or who remember the anniversary of a bereavement at this time.

Collect for Epiphany

Creator of the heavens,
who led the Magi by a star
to worship the Christ-child:
guide and sustain us,
that we may find our journey’s end
in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Praise God:


·  That He comes to us as the Babe of Bethlehem

·  That He comes to us as Crucified Saviour and Risen Lord

·  That He is Emmanuel, God with us

Please pray for:


· Our prayerful and careful reflection on how we personally will respond to the ‘Open for All’ initiative, with its exclusive focus at this stage on the  re-development of the Church Hall into the new All Saints’ Centre

· The children being baptised on December 18th at 11am, Charlie Gunn, Louis Gunn, Harry Delahunt, Deborah Delahunt, Kate Atkinson, Sam Atkinson.  that they and their families will grow in their love of Christ and their knowledge of His saving love for them

· Our worship services over Christmas, and the services in our sister churches locally, that they may witness to the Incarnate Lord with joy, clarity and effect

· All those working in the emergency services over Christmas, for protection and safety

· Those who will be spending a first Christmas without someone they love, that God will be their comfort and strength

· All those who are ill in body or mind at this time, that they will know the presence of God in their troubles

· Each of us to resolve to walk faithfully with God in the New Year in committed and practical discipleship

· Rest for those who labour in the Gospel, especially the  leaders and helpers in all our ministries and groups

· Those who are homeless and refugees at this time, or caught up in places of conflict, that they will find shelter, rest and peace

PRAISE GOD:

  • That He promises eternal life to all who turn in repentance to Jesus Christ as Saviour
  • That through Jesus Christ He saves believers from judgement and hell
  • That through Jesus Christ He flings wide the doors of heaven to welcome believers home


PLEASE PRAY FOR:

  • Our prayerful and careful reflection on how we personally will respond to the ‘Open for All’ initiative, with its exclusive focus at this stage on the re-development of the Church Hall into the new All Saints’ Centre
  • The Activ8 Toy Service today, thanking God for the leaders of our Uniformed Organisations and for their commitment to working with our young people, and praying for those young people and families who will receive the toys donated today
  • The Mission Area of the PCC meeting on Monday, thanking God for our active support as a church of   individuals and organisations involved in mission, both at home and abroad
  • The various Nativity Services taking place in Church this coming week, thanking God that the true Christmas story will be celebrated and encountered in each : Childwall CE Primary School KS2 service on Tuesday; Pram Club service on Thursday; Playgroup service on Friday;  and Rockclub Nativity on Sunday
  • The many activities and organisations connected with our church that will be taking a break over these next few weeks, praying for rest, refreshment and    renewal for our leaders and groups
  • The people and government of Syria as they continue the journey towards greater democracy and accountability in their national life and institutions
  • The ministry and mission of Vicky Martineau, thanking God for all that she is doing in Ecuador,  and praying for her and her family as they spend the Christmas season apart
  • Those who are sick, anxious or undergoing medical procedures at this time.
  • Those who are bereaved, or who remember the anniversary of a bereavement at this time


Collect for third Sunday of Advent

Father in heaven,
who sent your Son to redeem the world
and will send him again to be our judge:
give us grace so to imitate him
in the humility and purity of his first coming
that, when he comes again,
we may be ready to greet him
with joyful love and firm faith;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

  • That He calls us out of darkness into light
  • That He sets His people free to bring light to others


PLEASE PRAY FOR:

  • Our prayerful and careful reflection on how we personally will respond to the ‘Open for All’ initiative, with its exclusive focus at this stage on the re-development of the Church Hall into the new All Saints’ Centre
  • The Christingle Service, that many will come and recall that Jesus Christ is the Light of the World
  • Naida, Helen and others as they organise ‘Festive Fun’ this evening, that this will be a good time of fellowship together
  • The Standing Committee of the PCC meeting on Monday, thanking God for our wardens, Peter and Keith, and PCC Secretary, Anne, for their faithful service and ministry
  • The Jazz, Supper and Quiz night on Friday, that this evening will be a wonderful time of hospitality, enjoyment and fellowship
  • The ‘Carols, Cakes and Cuppas’ Christmas Tea on Saturday, praying that people of all ages will enjoy being together, and that many from outside our worshipping community will feel invited and welcomed
  • Those preparing for the Activ8 Toy Service next week, thanking God for the leaders of our Uniformed  Organisations and for their commitment to working with our young people
  • The unions and government in the UK, as they seek to find a way through the myriad consequences of the present  economic situation, especially its impact upon jobs, pensions and housing
  • The ministry and mission of the Salvation Army as it seeks to minister to the homeless and displaced at this time of the year through the provision of additional food, shelter and services
  • Those who are sick, anxious or undergoing medical procedures at this time.
  • Those who are bereaved, or who remember the anniversary of a bereavement at this time

Collect for second Sunday of Advent

Almighty God,
purify our hearts and minds,
that when your Son Jesus Christ comes again as
judge and saviour
we may be ready to receive him,
who is our Lord and our God.  Amen

  • Each of us to engage with the Advent Season with sobriety and thoughtfulness, as we reflect on the purpose of Christ’s incarnation: to save humankind from death and hell, and bring life and liberty to all who call upon Him
  • Bookworms on Monday evening, thanking God for the positive relationships and conversations that Bookworms engenders
  • The people of Scotland on St Andrew’s Day (Wednesday), praying for the work of the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh
  • Gary and the Rockclub leaders as they meet on Thursday to prepare the material for the children for January next year, thanking God for all those who give their time and energy to teach and train our children in the ways of Christ
  • Childwall School as they begin this week to bring alive the Christmas story to children and their families, praying      especially for the Early Years and Foundation Stage Nativity Service on Friday
  • The people and government of Egypt in the midst of the present turmoil and uncertainty that they face, asking     especially for restraint, engagement and dialogue to quickly replace confrontation and violence
  • The ministry and mission of those who live and work in Christian communities, both lay and religious, thanking God for their ministry of prayer, hospitality and service
  • Those who are sick, anxious or undergoing medical procedures at this time.
  • Those who are bereaved, or who remember the anniversary of a bereavement at this time.


Collect for Advent

Almighty God,
as your kingdom dawns,
turn us from the darkness of sin to the
light of holiness,
that we may be ready to meet you
in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen
