COALITION 4 MARRIAGE

The Government, last week, issued details of a consultation regarding their intention to change the legal definition of marriage.  CARE, Christian Concern, The Christian Institute and the Evangelical Alliance as well as a wide variety of other organisations have formed The Coalition for Marriage.

The Government’s consultation has come under heavy criticism since its publication last week.  As C4M’s Campaign Director Colin Hart put it, not only is the Government seeking to redefine marriage, they are redefining the meaning of the word ‘consultation’.

The Government has relented and included a question about whether the public agrees with their intention to redefine marriage.  Although this could be dismissed as pandering (as evidenced by comments elsewhere in the document wherein the Government state they will listen to pertinent points rather than numbers of responses), the Government will certainly be compelled to listen when thousands of people respond affirming marriage and opposing the                   Government’s redefinition plans.

So far more than 300,000 people have signed the C4M petition in support of the current legal definition of marriage, opposing the Government’s plans to redefine it!  It will be important for people in their thousands to respond to the consultation (which is open for twelve weeks).  If you are in agreement please sign the petition at the back of church  or on line at http://c4m.org.uk/
