APRIL ECO CHALLENGE

Many of us will have very restricted movements during the present pandemic and may not be able to get out to recycle in the way we used to. That doesn’t, however, stop us from looking forward to thinking about what we can do in the future when it’s all over. This month we’ve got just two challenges for you to consider.

1. If you use soft daily contact lenses did you know that they can be recycled at Boots Opticians? They will take the lenses, blister packs and foil covers. They are then sorted, shredded and washed and made into hard, granulated plastic granules which are used to produce such items as garden benches. (Note that this only at Boots Opticians, NOT shops)

2. If you are thinking about getting new light fittings or changing your lights it’s worth considering LED lights. They are more expensive initially but last far longer. (On average 17.12 years, so I am told) They are more energy efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs, using 90 per cent less electricity, and therefore creating a lesser carbon footprint.
